I have been trying to get a burn that will play on my LG HR558D BD player, my Pioneer BDP51-FD, and my Sony DVD player (The last one is a cheap player I bought for testing and backup purposes).

The problem had been occuring only when using AVStoDVD 2.4.2. However, today I tried a trial copy of ConvertXtoDVD.

The compilations play ok with VLC and PowerDVD.

I use only a DivX Codec and the codecs installed by DVDFAb 8.1.x.x, and AVStoDVD. There are no other codec packages installed. I have installed the ffdshow filters and run the ffd-tweaker as required for Windows 7 and AVStoDVD.

DVD players either eject the DVD or come up with an error.

I have 3 optical drives in my computer - an LG DVD burner , a Lite-on Blu-ray burner and a LG blu-ray burner. I have tried all burners. I have tried 3 different types of media. All Dual layer, DVD+R.

The only common demoninator was the I was using IMGBURN to do the burns. So I tried the VSO burning engine and got the same results.

The source files are AVI or MKV.

Burns are always done at 4x, no faster

About 10% of the single title burns also will not play on stand alone players.

Can anyone offer any thoughts on why this might be occuring and what things I might have missed as I have tried to isolate the cause.

    thanks
    Tanya

Is this the first time you're using AVStoDVD? AVStoDVD defaults out-of-the-box to creating PAL-format DVD-Video discs, so if your players want NTSC, they'll throw an error. Also, it's a good idea to check all the settings, anyway, just to be sure.

Are you actually converting to DVD format? Or are you really burning AVI and MKV files to data discs? Many standalone DVD players do not support AVI and MKV files on data discs. Put one of the discs on a PC. Does it have folders named AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS?

Some older DVD players don't support playback of computer burned dual layer discs. I have personally seen this. What brand are you using? The only reliable DVD+R DL media is that which Verbatim makes. How old are the standalone players you tested with?

Hi, thanks for your suggestions. This started as an AVStoDVD thread, but MrC suggested that since the DVD structure plays fine with VLC and PowerDVD that it cannot be an AVStoDVD problem. He suggested it is a burner problem.

The age of the players are LG: 12 months, Pioneer: 24 months, Sony: 22 months.

Yes, I believe it appears to be a compliant DVD structure; within correct bitrate, correct size (fits 99% of DL disk), has all the right IFOs, BUPs, and VOB files.

I have tried several brands of DVD, except verbatim as they are insanely expensive here in Melbourne. ($90 for a 50pack, as compared to $25 - $40 for all other brands - I generally stick to the top end of those at $40 for a 50sp).

PAL is fine, I am in Australia. I have been through the settings several times, and spent quite some time googling the problems and tried various settings. As a last resort I even reinstalled windows and installed only the DVD authoring tools and left everything else off. I also tried this on another PC, with the same version of AVStoDVD, ImgBurn, Wndows 7, and ConvertXtoDVD.

I've been burning DVDs for years, and this problem has only started recently. For the last few months I've just been backing up my DVD and blu-ray collection to new discs with DVDFAB and they all work fine (so far). Now that I've finished that exercise I decided to backup all the TV series I had on my computer to disc so I could get some space back.

Imgburn does not report any errors in the log file. Sample attached.

No I'm not writing AVIs and MKVs to the discs. Either way, my samsung TVs both play both formats. My LG TV plays AVIs but not MKVs.

I tried creating an ISO then burning it, then tried creating a DVD folder structure and manually added the folders to IMGBURN. Both ways of doing it get the same result.

People who try to save money by not buying Verbatim DVD+R DL discs find out that they have actually wasted their money because their burns don't work. We recommend Verbatim because it works - period. And people who burn to other DL brands come back here crying about how their burns don't work. It happens ALL the time.

This, like the post above it are completely unhelpful, utterly childish and extremely rude and are totally uncalled for on a public forum. I was looking to leverage of your so-called technical expertise instead I get insults?

Being frustrated with a problem and seeking technical assistance does not infer that the poster is blubbering like a baby. Seriously! Grow up!

I have worked all my life and am now on a pension. Much as I would like to friviously waste money, I just cant afford it. Getting successful burns for years and have something go south on my, in my opinion doesn't lead to one single conclusion. It sounds like "if we don't know lets just blame the media".
