I have transferred many vhs's, pal and ntsc to dvd, using jvc 9911/sr10VU and a brit JVC vcr 8965 and a lovely brit jvc dvd recorder m100, and found that on the whole the quality is pretty samey.
Get a commercial tape(Doesn't seem to be copy protected, Christabel by Denniss Potter(NTSC), and wallop, looks horrible until I use a cheap jvc dvd/vcr xvciu combo to play and Toshiba xs 32 dvd recorder to record, using the RCA video not S Video , no tbc, and works like a charm.
Weird old hobby this isn;t it.
