  1. Yeah, im trying to create a trailer based on footage thats available on the net. I downloaded an aussie tv avi that when I import into Premier, it plays ok on the left hand screen, but when I cut this into the main project, its just a black screen.

This doesent happen if I import the quicktime teaser from the official site, only when I use the .avi.

However, it plays ok on the left hand side any ideas?

  2. What I did to fix this was to simply convert it to a file format which did work ok.

Which was...? DV AVI at a guess?

As you're playing with Premiere, you'll find the tutorials and forums at Wrigley Video really useful and enlightening.

I know this has nothing to do with your problem, but have you checked out the new Superman Returns trailer?

With Premiere you need to set a project format for the timeline (e.g. uncompressed, DV, Quicktime, etc). Other formats can be previewed and imported, but to play from the timeline each clip needs conversion to the project format (aka "render work area").

It is done this way so you only have to render the actual clips used.
