1.0.2 was released to today. Some bug fixes. Main feature update is the start and stop columns (if you are upgrading they will not be visible by default command - J with the library selected will bring up the view options for that table view)
set desired start and stop times in seconds for repair file mode and change format mode.
a few new menu items added. A "New Playlist" menu item in the File menu and a "Show background / Audio" menu item added to the Edit Menu.

1.0.1 is now released. Most of the changes in 1.0.1 are bugfixes, there is also a new "Advanced" menu added with all the options of the right click menu in the playlist table (Requant, repair etc..) there is also now a change format feature which will easily allow conversion from NTSC - > PAL and visa versa.
set the desired output size for change format in the new size column and then choose change format from the advanced or contextual menu and choose the new format (NTSC or PAL) and thats it! it's never been simpler.

Have you ever wished there was a program for easy dvd creation/mixing just like cd mixing? Well wait no longer because hawkeye 1.0 does just that.
In one application you can import, mix, author and burn your favorite dvd titles from a wide collection of dvds. create you're own custom menus with ease with custom font and color choices from any color you can think of and any font on your system. author single or dual layer dvds.
hawkeye has a very farmiliar interface so learning to use it is a snap

nice idea, but if I understand this correctly,
you still have to "rip" the content off of the dvd,
as this app doesn't handle copyright schemes
such as Sony's ArCcoss and Macromedia's
Ripguard, correct?"Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

When I'm not here, Where can I be found?
Urban Mac User -
I've played around with Hawkeye a bit. It requires DVD-compliant MPEG 2 files and will read those from "a wide collection of DVDs", if you get my drift. It can extract chapters and it can requantize MPEGs to shrink their size. When I extracted multiple chapters the chapter markers were lost on the final product (I saved as disc image rather than burning any discs). I didn't try its requantization feature so I have no idea of how the quality compares with Popcorn or DVD2OneX.
Since I have Toast I don't need this for authoring and burning video DVDs from MPEG files - and Toast lets me mix other types of video files as well because it includes an MPEG encoder. But Toast won't read from "a wide collection of DVDs."
When you extract the video from a DVD it of course has to write that to the hard drive. Then when you want to author the VIDEO_TS it has to write that. If you save as a disc image it writes that too. So you have three versions of the same MPEG on the hard drive. This makes sense, but none of them get deleted automatically when you're done so you need to manually clean up the hard drive afterward.
Also, be sure to create a new folder when asked for a place to save the VIDEO_TS. I clicked okay when it defaulted to my Documents folder and it included every folder and file from my Documents folder into the disc image (along with the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS it creates). This can be avoided by creating an empty folder for it to save its VIDEO_TS.
I encountered some bugs. It reported the AC-3 tracks as being LPCM. The extracted chapters are titled as being different chapter numbers than the ones selected. It crashed when trying to extract a DVD slide show. The Help manual doesn't have enough of a tutorial, but it isn't that difficult to learn by trial and error.
Users without Toast and who don't like other ripping or requantizing apps - or who want this all done in one app - could find this application useful. -
yeh unfortunately with some of the new technologies we took advantage of in 10.4 any OS prior isn't really supported.

several bugs have been addressed since 1.0+ and there have been several new features added. By 1.1 we will almost definitely have support for multiple input files to re-encode to mpeg-2 (avi, mov etc..) We are open to hearing new feature suggestions for subsequent releases as well, and as long as they are reasonable suggestions we will almost definitely implement them.
