  1. I have a few questions regarding DVD --> x264 conversion....

    Firstly I'm looking for QUALITY, I don't mind the encoding time, since I'm only going to encode once. Secondly I plan to play it only on PC.

    What is anamorphic encoding? Is it better than the normal resizing we do?

    I'm not so fond of One Click apps, so which would be a good app for the encoding process. Also is there any difference quality wise (not feature wise) in CLI and VfW interfaces?

    Any advanced user guides out there for encoding to x264?

    Are Sharktooths profiles and compiles any better than the regular x264 profiles/compiles?

    Are there any good custom matrices available?

  2. Here's a site that explains a few key settings:

    Here's one that tells you all about the settings, and links (at the bottom) to Gordian Knot guides:

    Anamorphic is 16:9 widescreen, non-anamorphic is 4:3 non-widescreen - these refer to the aspect ratio of the video. Get this wrong and the image will be distorted.

    That's all I can help you with, I'm afraid. Hope you find it useful!

    CLI is better than VFW as VFW is abandoned and doesnt support all features

    Not entirly abondoned. It was updated with the recent API changes. There was a time when it wouldn't even compile because it was so out of date. Still best not to use it though.
