I want to tweak what I've already authored (using DVDAuthorGUI) in PgcEdit. The problem is that there are no buttons being displayed on the menu (during preview) after I open the DVD in PgcEdit, only the picture.
Here is the DVD Layout, auto-generated from DVDAuthorGUI 1.008
This DVD contains: 2 titles 1 menus .364 gig total
Titles include:
title1emultiplexed Original Video.demuxed.m2v/Demultiplexed original Video T01 2_0ch
256Kbps DELAY Oms.ac3 (3 chapters)
title2emultiplexed Slide Show Video.demuxed.m2v/Demultiplexed Slide Show Video.ac3
(1 chapters)
Menus Include:
menu1:Group Picture.m2v (2 buttons)
The DVD will begin with Menu 1
The DVD will begin with :jump titleset 1 menu"
Menus:
Menu 1
Button 1(275X367, 430X417) goes to:jump title 1 chapter 2
Button 2 (475X314, 549X419) goes to:jump title 2 chapter 1
Titles:
Title 1 goes to: call menu
Title 2 goes to: call menu
As you can see DVDAuthorGUI created the buttons on the menu. When I play this VIDEO_TS file using mplayer, the menu's buttons are displayed and it works as it is supposed to. GREAT! But in PgcEdit there is no way to access these buttons. When I press the 'menu' button (in the toolbar), PgcEdit freezes.
I have used these programs before to edit home videos and have never had this problem, PgcEdit has always worked and I LOVE the 'trace' option. The only thing that is different from when I've used it in the past is that, when opening the DVD, this warning is displayed:
WARNING:
The number of VOB IDx stored in the VTS_C_ADT table of VTS 1(4)
don't match the real number of VOB IDs in the table (2).
(This is a known bug of DVDShrink in reauthor mode)
The table will be fixed with the correct number of VOB IDs (2)
Please save the DVD
I click OK. I have never used DVDShrink. Then when I scan for BOV's, it displays "VTS 1: Found 0 buttons".
Can anyone can point me in the right direction and help me solve this problem?
Thanks in advance. Cindy

Did you create BOV's (Buttons Over Video), or regular Menu Buttons
If your menu has 2 buttons, then look in the left column for something in the VMGM or VTSM sections with a "2b" in it -- that will be the menu...
Regards,
George -
The left hand column says this:
VTSM 1,LU 1(en), 1 (0:00) 2b. RootM
So, I'm assuming that PgcEdit DID find the menu buttons. Why then, when I double click on the RootM, do I not see the menu buttons in the screen that appears (where you can edit the RootM).
Also, clicking on the Menu button in PgcEdit's toolbar, when RootM is highlighted, causes PgcEdit to freeze instead of displaying the screen to edit the buttons and menu.
I must have settings incorrect somewhere........GB Packers fan for life! Go Pack! -
What happens when you right-click on RootM and then Menu Buttons (or highlight RootM and CTRL-M)? Same thing?
-
Yes, same thing, PgcEdit freezes.
As I said, I've used this before and it's always worked. And, I know what the screen should look like after you hit the toolbar Menu Button.......so this is frustrating - especially since I'm so close to burning the DVD!
One other thing that I just noticed, which may or may not be significant, is that when you double-click on RootM, and the next screen appears, Playback Time is 00:00:00.01 (at 30 fps). Is this correct for a still menu? I've never bothered looking at it in the past.GB Packers fan for life! Go Pack! -
Sounds like a job for liquid217 (the developer of DVDAuthorGUI). If he doesn't see this thread, you might PM or e-mail him. borax (GUIForDVDAuthor developer) would probably also know how to get to the bottom of it.

I've never had such a problem. ATM I have no idea. Do you have this problem for 'all' dvdauthorgui created DVDs or just for this specific one?
Other question: What do you want to tweak? Maybe this can be done in the author.xml file, then there would be no necessity to use pgcedit for tweaking...GUI for dvdauthor:

What the is this ?
Button 1(275X367, 430X417) goes to:jump title 1 chapter 2 ... should this not have been chapter 1 ?
Button 2 (475X314, 549X419) goes to:jump title 2 chapter 1
If these button's have any form of overlap between them , it will crash pgcedit .
From all my dvd's I have created , there are no button's in the root section ... not to say this cannot be ... it's just not the prefered way .
If dvd title is other than 30fps , you have a problem .
If pgcedit has issue ... do not burn to media till problem is sorted .
----------------------------------------------
Finally ... there are many way's to create the m2v for menu's ... and not all will work as expected ... you will get ?b in pgcedit where button's should be , but will not see them .
If menu is still , use dvdauthorgui's own inbiult m2v generator to turn these into m2v's ... never fail's .
Bbmpeg never fail's to generate properly formed m2v video stream's , and has many option's , include's audio encoding ... use avisynth script to load mpeg's directly to it for re-encoding .
Quenc is next , less feature's ... henc or whatever is ok ... editable matrix for those who know what they are doing ... both do not handle audio ... just video encoding .
I would re-encode the menu video , then rebiuld the dvd from this point ... making sure all video stream's use the same frame rate ...
from here , pgcedit should not have an issue with the menu . -
Other question: What do you want to tweak? Maybe this can be done in the Author.xml file, then there would be no necessity to use pgcedit for tweaking...

I'll test this and get back to you.

Button 2 (475X314, 549X419) goes to:jump title 2 chapter 1

What EXACTLY do you mean by this? I don't think they overlap, but maybe I'm not understanding you correctly.
It is a still menu and yes, I did use dvdauthorgui's m2v generator!
I think I answered all of your questions. Please let me know if I didn't. I will test another home video this afternoon, see if it does the same thing and post the results.
Thanks for all of your input.GB Packers fan for life! Go Pack! -
Sorry, the quotes didn't work quite right. I think I was in too much of a hurry. Hope you can still understand. Let me know if you can't.

Thanks for explaining the overlapping. Before I assumed I knew what you meant, I wanted to be sure. The buttons are nowhere near each other, so they do not overlap.

From all my dvd's I have created , there are no button's in the root section ... not to say this cannot be ... it's just not the prefered way .
I just found two files created by DVDAuthorGUI - the first one is menu1.xml and it contains this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
- <subpictures>
- <stream>
- <spu start="00:00:00.0" end="00:00:00.0" highlight="C:\Program Files\DVDAuthorGUI\highlight1.png" select="C:\Program Files\DVDAuthorGUI\select1.png" transparent="010101" force="yes" autoorder="rows">
<button x0="275" y0="367" x1="430" y1="417" />
<button x0="475" y0="314" x1="549" y1="419" />
</spu>
</stream>
</subpictures>
The second one is config.xml and it contains this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
- <dvdauthor dest="E:\Network User Files\Video Files\Kids From Burlington\Step 3 - Authored Video (DVDAuthorGUI & PGCEdit)">
- <!-- DO NOT edit the 2 lines above

</vmgm>
- <titleset>

- <pgc pause="inf">

<button>jump title 2 chapter 1;</button>
<vob file="E:\Network User Files\Video Files\Kids From Burlington\Step 3 - Authored Video (DVDAuthorGUI & PGCEdit)\menusub1.mpg" />
</pgc>
</menus>
- <titles>
<video format="ntsc" />
- <pgc>
<vob file="E:\Network User Files\Video Files\Kids From Burlington\Step 3 - Authored Video (DVDAuthorGUI & PGCEdit)\title1.mpg" chapters="00:00:00.00,00:00:02.236,00:14:37.110" />

<post>call menu;</post>
</pgc>
</titles>
</titleset>
</dvdauthor>
Does anyone see anything wrong with these? Remember, the VIDEO_TS file created out of DVDAuthorGUI does play correctly in mplayer.
Thenks again for everyones help so far!GB Packers fan for life! Go Pack! -
Well, it is difficult to understand the problem without the files, but anyway, PgcEdit should not freeze when opening the menu, even if it is bogus.
VTSM 1,LU 1(en), 1 (0:00) 2b. RootM

Maybe there is something wrong with the video? Can you see it with the (normal) preview? If the preview is unable to display the video, it is also unable to produce the background image PgcEdit needs to display the menu. It can explain why PgcEdit freezes.
If these button's have any form of overlap between them , it will crash pgcedit .
I don't know DVDAuthorGUI well, so I can't help much more. But if you want, send me your IFOs with the menu VOB file (VTS_01_0.VOB.) I'll try to locate the problem. Thanks in advance. (pgcedit <at> tiscali <dot> be)
Also, could you download PgcEdit again, and try it? I've already heard of some similar problems with bogus copies of PgcEdit.r0lZ - PgcEdit homepage Hosted by VideoHelp (Thanks Baldrick)

I can also view both titles in Preview.GB Packers fan for life! Go Pack! -
Well, everything works fine here. I can see the outline of the two buttons, and I can click on them.
The button highlights (the subpics) are not shown by PgcEdit, but that has always been so.
Have you tried a freshly downloaded PgcEdit?
You might also try to disable the preview (Preview -> Use Preview, then restart PgcEdit.) You will not see the background image, but you should see the two squares, with the current button highlighted in green.r0lZ - PgcEdit homepage Hosted by VideoHelp (Thanks Baldrick)

My problem is solved.
I was playing with the toolbar (in hopes of finding something) and when I got to "Options", I saw "Restore defaults" and figured I had nothing to loose by trying it. I restarted PgcEdit and now trace mode works as it is supposed to! My buttons are there and I am able to continue authoring.
Thank you one and all for you help on this matterI truly appreciate it and I hope I can help other members in the future.

Glad it works finally!
I don't understand why an option can be responsible of this problem. If you encounter this problem again, try to determine the option that caused it and let me know. Thanks in advance.r0lZ - PgcEdit homepage Hosted by VideoHelp (Thanks Baldrick)
