I sure do hope someone give me a little boost here.
I'm cross-eyed now from scanning thru guides and posts and software descriptions.

Thanks to Manono and Guns1inger who gave me guidance, and Neuron2 who wrote DeComb filter, and Fizick who wrote DeSpot filter,
I have whupped my DV-avi capture of vhs tape into shape.
It was 3:2 telecined, with lots of dirt & scratches, and I used AviSynth script in VirtualDub-Mpeg2 to Telecide, Decimate, and DeSpot.

I frameserved that to TMPGenc free to create dvd-compliant MPEG2 , with 3:2 pulldown added back in to have 23.97 fps internal & 29.97 fps playback.

So, at this point, I would like to add chapter stops, useable with dvd-player remote control, I don't particularly want or need a menu.
That's the only editing/authoring I want to do to it, no transitions or effects or any of that stuff.

Do I load this mpeg2 into an authoring app now?
If so, can someone recommend a free one that will recognise the pulldown that is already there?
(I was sorry to learn that my Pinnacle Studio didn't seem to)

Or, do I back up several steps and do something else,
and if so, what would the something else be?

I know all this information exists here somewhere, inside the mountain of more information.
I'm just overwhelmed with TOO MUCH information, I think.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

There is only one free DVD authoring app for windows that I am aware of, and that is DVD Author. It is a commandline tool that uses XML to create the disc, so on it's own it isn't very user friendly. There are two GUIs for it. DVDAuthorGUI and GUIforDVDAuthor. One does menus, the other does quick menuless discs.

There are other apps that can also author - IFOEdit, Rejig etc - but again, without menus etc.

GUIforDVDAuthor is probably your best free bet.

Good god, man, do you never sleep?
Seems like I see you posting at all hours.

Thank you for the boost, it is much appreciated.

I'll give that a shot, and post back results.

Guns1inger, again I must thank you.
You rescued me from a briar patch full of too many choices!

My thanks also go out to the folks involved in the dvdAuthor project.
Both the gui tools seem quite capable.

They do each have their own little quirks of course, and I’ll be practicing for a bit.
GUI for DVDAuthor doesn’t recognise pulldown on my imported files, and for that matter, doesn’t seem to recognise its own, or at least I couldn’t get pulldown to work with it.

For my immediate purposes, the simpler one DVDAuthorGUI, just hits the spot. It works with pulldown, and I do like that it can create iso images, so I can use my favorite burning app ImgBurn without having to stop to convert TS folder.

    Again, many many thanks.

she's having just a whee!!! of a time, how about you?
