  1. Anyone have any experience with the Sony DRU-820A burner?
Looking for any + or - comments.

I'm still using my Sony DRU 500AX (4 yrs old) and still working fine with no problems. I've probably burned well over 1,000 DVD's with this burner, it's been a real work horse. But now it's bout time I upgraded to a DL, so I'm looking at Sony again.

    Thanks,
    Redd

The SONY 820A is a rebadged BENQ 1670 drive. Check out the BENQ FORUM at CdFreaks.com for comments. SONY no longer manufactures their own dvd burners.

  3. Okay...I'll take any recommendations and/or advice on DL burners or what most folks are finding the most useable and reliable with the fewest bad burns. Burners with the best blank media compatibility and editing software compatibility.

BENQ 1650 & PIONEER 111D drives are what I would recommend. Both are excellent readers and burns well with good quality dvd media.

  5. I have an 820A. Here are tests I did with Verbatim dvd+r DL on this thread,

I had problems until I updated the firmware from 1a to 1b. Burns were perfect after that. I bought the 820A not for video work but for its dvd-ram support which I prefer for data backup.

  6. I agree with budz - the Benq 1650 and Pioneer 111D are excellent choices. I would favor the 111 if DL is most important. But either are excellent drives.
