  1. I bought a VHS tape on Amazon.UK which looks fine (tape edges are good etc) and I have tried to play it on 3 different VCR's but the picture is distorted so badly I cant make anything out at all, not even a ghostly image although on my best machine I did see Madonna at the beginning of the tape in a ghostly rolling image with audio. I tried tracking to the extreme on both ends on all 3 machines with no imporovement. I read soemthing about UK VCR's running on 60 Mhz and US machines on 50 Mhz and I am wondering if the speed of the tape is not the culprit. Does anyone know if commercialy pre-recorded tapes (Madonna Concert) made in the UK run at a different speed?

    I dont think tracking is the problem.

    UK = PAL format
    US = NTSC format
    PAL & NTSC are not compatible with each other.
    You cannot watch a UK VHS tape on your US VCR.
    If you get a PAL VCR, you still cannot watch it on your US TV.

    There are multisystem VCR decks available, for around 350-400 dollars ...
