i have a few videos that are in mkv file format and the file plays well in vlc and the codec shows as opendivx and the audio codec is vorbis 48000 Hz, however when i try to open the file in virtualdubmob 1.5.10.2 it gives me a error saying that :
VideoSourceAVI error : the source image format is not acceptable (error code -2)
when i checked the file properties in virtualdubmod it gives a resolution 0x0, i am using divx 5.2.1 and xvid is also installed, i have installed the kl mega codec pack, am i missing out something or am i doing something wrong,
i opened the mkv file in mkvextract but it shows only the vorbis audio file
i need to convert these files to divx as i play them on my divx player

If mkvextract can't identify the video track, you should probably upload a sample so that Mosu or someone else on the Matroska team can fix it if your file isn't what is broken. Make sure that you are using the latest version of mkvextract (mkvtoolnix) first though.

How do you demux with Mkvtool? All I see is a way to create MKV files I need to take apart a MKV file and am not having any luck at all with this.
I want to end up in a format that will play on a DVD player. I have used several tools to convert MV's to avi or directly to DVD but these files just won't convert correctly so if I can just break them apart I may be able to get them converted a peice at a time. -
If you are after DVD video, then I can't see much point in demuxing, unless the mkv happens to contain DVD compliant MPEG-2. Best to just convert the mkv. That said, it sounds like you are using mmg (mkvmerge GUI). It is for creation of mkv's only. What you want is mkvextract. There is a GUI for it, but it doesn't come with mkvtoolnix.

What you want is MKVExtractGUI and mkvtoolnix. Put the files that come with the MKVExtractGUI download into the mkvtoolnix directory, then run MKVExtractGUI.exe. The GUI is pretty self explanitory. That should allow you to extract all the components from the mkv file.
