  1. I have this 4.5Gb ts video file (1080p,MPEG-4 AVC,H264,LPCM,DD5.1). How can I extract a clip in AVI format from this file? Thanks.

    Thanks, I tried AviDemux latest version but whenever I open the ts file it ultimately crashes. Any other software I could try to do the job?

    mencoder should be able to do it for you just fine.

    failing that
    you could use dgavcindex
    and frameserve in avisynth with avcsource().

    a few threads down soopa has an avchd mini guide outlining most of the steps
    and adding some automation.
    it'll give you a clue or two.

  6. Sorry I didn't give you complete steps as 45tripp kindly pointed out

    Warning: AVI is not the best container for h.264 video streams, there are often compatibility issues as it is "hacked" to force it into AVI container. .mp4 and .mkv are the "proper" containers.

    1) use tsMuxeR using demux mode to get your raw streams
    2) AVC2AVI to force raw .264 stream into AVI container
    3) Sometimes you have to add in the audio in a separate step with AVI-muxGUI
