hey y'all. i've read all the long running topics on the dangers of using labels. but i'm going with them anyway, it's a small project (only about 40min) so i think i'll be fine. plus i'm not a big dvd maker (just the one project) so it's not feasible for me to try the printable media thing.

    i'll take my chances.

my question is: is one type more dangerous? matte vs. glossy /// normal vs. full face.

    part two:

any good canadian places ( i checked the older topic but hoped there might be some newer places)?

i'm thinking about going with meritline glossy full face.

    thanx everybody in advance.

ps. i did do a forum search but couldn't find the answers i was looking for so that's why i started yet another topic regarding this. sorry.

Hub labels are the safest, anything else and you're on your own.

Go ahead and use a full label. Just don't expect it to play back realiably and be aware that the adhesive melting away from the label could ruin your dvd player.
When the members of this forum tell you not to use a label on a dvd, they speak from experience, not to mess with you.

    I love this quote:

"i've read all the long running topics on the dangers of using labels. but i'm going with them anyway"

You then go on to ask what type of labels we would recommend. I think it's pretty much a universal given on this site that no label (no label meaning: NO LABEL - glossy or otherwise) is recommended. If you want this project (small or not) to playback, do not use a label. Then again, what do we know? We are just the ones that you posed the question to.

awesome! you've been a great help! well said! great job belittling o' wise one!

    hahaha.

.... from the topics i've read it does appear that some people on this site have used labels. and some have not had any huge problems.

i was just asking for those people's opinions on the lesser of two evils...

but amongst your "good natured" ribbing there was a nugget of help so thanx for that.
like I said, printable media is not an option which is why i'm taking a risk on labels.

anyone know if you can you buy dvdr's with completely blank facing?

PS. also thanx to prot for the help.

    cheers.

    early.

Stop being an ass and do NOT use labels.

If these are to be distributed then I assume it will come in a DVD box of some sort with artwork. That is good enough.

You can buy DVD recordable discs (in -R and +R variety) that are either plain silver or all white. The best are the shiny silver top Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R discs which can be bought direct from RIMA.COM for a very good price (in quantities of 50 or 100).

A plain top DVD in a DVD box with artwork looks nice. Don't **** it up with a label.

If you feel you MUST label then Casio makes a nice CD/DVD printer called the CW-50 which you can get on-line for around $80 US Dollars (give or take). This little printer will print directly onto a plain top CD/DVD disc ... it can only do simple text ... but it adds a nice professional touch and it thermal prints so it can't be easily rubbed off. Better than using an inkject as they smear all over the place. A friend of mine has this Casio printer and uses it with the Taiyo Yuden shiny silver top DVD-R discs and it works great!

    P.S.
Here is a link to the Casio CW-50 on the NewEgg.com website ---> CLICK HERE

There is also a Casio CW-75 that adds a tiny keyboard to the unit so you can actually use it without hooking it up to a computer. This is actually the model my friend has but it is a bit more than the CW-50 yet both print with the same quality.

RIMA.COM carries the replacement "ribbons" which come in black, blue and red and work with the CW-50 as well as the CW-75.
