I have owned a DVD+/-R DL burner for two years and this is my first time authoring a DVD-9 disc. I currently have my project in Ulead DVD Workshop. I exported this into a Video_TS folder. Now, AFAIK, there is no layer break in my project. What program do I use to force/create a layer break? Also, the DVD I am doing is a live performance thats divided into two acts. Since it doesn't break the coherency of the performance, is it possible to make the layer break appear in between the two acts (where I have a chapter mark)? One more question: How compatible are DVD+R DLs? I intend to use a Verbatim DVD+R DL, which is supposed to be very high quality.

For compatability, if your burner supports it, bitset the +R DL so it appears to the player to be a commercial DVD-ROM. It won't resolve all compatability issues, but it may help some players read it where they might otherwise refuse.

As for layer breaks, do a search as there are a couple of very comprehensive posts arguing the pros and cons of various methods. Be aware that the layer break position is constarined in part by the way you have authored the disc, and in part by the physical constraints in burning two layers.

  3. I've found the Verbatim DLs to be very good for dual-layer authoring.

This is probably the longest post on the subject. Start at the end and work backwards
