  1. J&R is now taking preorders, at $229.99
    http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4121124

There are other alternatives available now, at lower prices.
For ex, last time I checked my CC store had the Pany DMR-ES25S in stock for $179.99 AR.

    On a related question,
anything further on the rumor JVC 101S may have been outsourced?
I don't want to buy a JVC 101S (if made by Funai, for example).

  3. The rumor was vague and unsupported, as I recall.
When JVC DRM101S begins shipping, perhaps we will know more.

    The more important question is
"Is the JVC DR-M101S worth waiting for?"

Is it "best of breed" in its price range ($250 or less)?
"Best" meaning, expected ..... PQ, reliability, features..... including current models and closeouts (eg, remaining Pios at local WalMarts).

The Panny ES25 is a fantastic machine and I would at the very least try it, and take it back if you dont like it.

I never see a reason to wait for new technology. If something you want is currently available, go get it. Forget about the future, it's not important.

The JVC DR-M100S is a great machine, go get it.

  7. $229.99 is JVC list price. Street prices will be better. I would wait if DL recording and the HDMI interface are important to you.

  8. Thanks, everyone.
    All good suggestions.

As I have several DVD Recorders (Sony GX7, LiteOn 5001, LiteOn 5005 and Pio DVR220S), I have decided to wait (no more than 30 days) for JVC DRM101S release, and early user comments.

I wanted to try a JVC DRM101S (because forum members rate other JVC units so highly).

However, if the "Funai rumor" is true, I am leaning toward the Pany ES25 (or possibly, a JVC DRM100S, if I can find a new unit at a reasonable price. No refurbs).

Again, my criteria for future purchases are (in order of importance)
PQ (2 and 3 hr mode)
    Reliability
    Features

  9. I asked jvc customer support about when the recorder would hit the streets and I was told end of this month middle of the next. I am waiting on this unit too and would like to see how it performs.
