my client uses final cut pro HD i believe. she's taken some videos in HD and what i need to do is post the files on her website in .flv format. Problem is she's been exporting these videos with strange codecs which 1, i can't open on my machine and 2. i can't seem to convert using flash. What is the best method for her to export the videos, transfer it by dvd to me so I can take and convert.

She did it right a couple of times, but since then we keep running into issues. She just burned me a dvd of one of her new files yesterday but when i load the dvd and try to play the .mov, it says that the file is not a movie file or something like that. is there a quick and easy method for her to convert her HD videos into a format that my flash 8 can encode into flv easily? thanks.

i'm not sure. are there different formats she can export the .mov in? i will try to update my quicktime, but is there a different file type she can export to that will maintain quality and allow me to easily update with flasy 8 encoding?

not really with final cut pro, quicktime animation or quicktime targa are the most common quality choices for cross platform

make sure she is finalizing the quicktime file on the apple

I would think PNG would be a good cross-platform choice too. It's fully supported by OS9, OSX, & Windows, and it compresses better than Animation as well as being lossless.

Otherwise, I agree with BJ_M: make sure your friend isn't trying to give you a QT_REF movie and/or (IOW) one that hasn't been rendered/flattened fully.

You may also want to have your friend export the audio as a separate AIFF or WAV, not in a mov container. There could be some QT7 vs. QT6 (or earlier) audio complications, and that would clear that up.

PNG is a good choice also - but there is some color issues with that format during conversion (in some encoders) - for flv, prob. would not mater ...

only if you want a really bad looking flv file in the end, plus it would be a 2 step affair on her end

would it be even easier for her to burn a DVD, me rip it, convert to like avi and then encode?

    Easier-Maybe.

But it would be completely defeating the point of it being done in "HD", because there'll be 2 stages of downrezzing and lossy compression, instead of 1.

Really, it should be much easier than you're going on about.

...Try having her export it as an AVI (uncompressed?)
