Haven't posted for a while, but can't seem to find an answer to my problem. I have been burning my older 007 VHS tapes to DVD. I've run into the following problem when burning them to Verbatim DVD +R DL disks. I can capture the movie (MPEG format) fine. I can author and create a basic menu that only has a "Play" button and it will burn properly. However, when I create chapters/scenes using the "scene detection" feature, they are created, but I can't burn the DVD. It goes thru the transcoding process and recognizes that there is a DL disk, but fails to write to it - leaving the following message - Unable to prepare data for recording: Failed to get disc content

    I use the following

Capture Device - TDK IndiCapture (don't laugh - haven't had any issues and the quality suites my needs)
WinDVD Creator 2.5 - for capturing file (only software I've found besides ShowBiz that works with IndiCapture)
Nero 6.6 Ultra - for burning DVD

I have also used WinDVD Creator 2.5 sucessfully for burning single layer DVDs that have menus and scenes, but it won't recognize DL disks.

    Anyone have any thoughts??[/b]

I had a similar problem with some Fuji DVD+R DL discs (I won't buy anything but Verbatim any more, but that's another story) and my fix was to upgrade the firmware on my DVD burner. I went to http://www.rpc1.org and upgraded my firmware and it fixed my problem. Another guy had a similar problem and the same burner as me and my suggestion to upgrade his firmware did absolutely nothing to help him, so it may not help you either.

I do NOT recommend using Nero for DVD burning! Nero does some nasty crap when it burns DVDs that may or may not cause future problems for you. Take a look at:
    https://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/third_party/blutach/Burning%20With%20PgcEdit.htm
Basically, Nero packs data prior to burning and BUPs and IFOs may occupy the same block on the disc. If so and that block goes bad, your DVD is unplayable. A much better solution, more time consuming but safer, is to use PGCEdit to create ISOs and burning the ISOs with ImgTool Classic.
    See https://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/third_party/blutach/dl_burning_with_pgcedit.htm
Also the main PGCEdit page is

I had this same problem in NeroVision Express 3 (NVE) with the error message:
Unable to prepare data for recording: Failed to get disc content

I got the error several minutes after starting to burn a DVD movie that was based on three AVI files that I had captured from my DV camcorder. After much investigation I determined that the problem was that one of the AVI files was corrupted about halfway through. Apparently NVE3 choked on file (when it got to the corrupted part) and then NVE provided the aforementioned (unhelpful) error message. I suppose that NVE might give this same error message when it encounters any kind of corrupted audio or video file, like MPG, AVI, WMV, MP3, etc.

You can solve the problem by either recapturing the video file (hopefully uncorrupted), or by running a video repair tool on the video file. There are several video fix tools available for free, such as DivFix. There are several such tools listed on videohelp.com website.

    Good luck!
