I am using Nero 6.6 to back up some movies. I am using Maxell DVD+R 8x 4.7 Gig discs. I bought a 25 pack of the discs and they worked fine. I went back and got a fifty pack of the same type of discs Now my movies come out great except for at the very end of the movie. The last three or four mins. Stutter and the video/audio jerks(This happens most of the time Not ALL the time. I have burned a couple of disks successfully). Anybody have any idea what the problem may be? Are maxell discs inconsistent? The first 25 burned really well. I did some data disks that came out OK too. Now I am having a lot of trouble with the endings of my movies. If I burn a movie that is relatively short I do not get the jerking and stuttering, but if the movie takes up the entire disk I am sometimes (actually most of the time) getting the problem. Any body have any suggestions or maybe a solution? I burn with a Megastor 7-in-1 dual layer burner, Using windows xp service pack 2, Any suggestions appreciated. THANKS
P.S. I burned one movie using Nero burning Rom and Got the jerking at the end, I burned the same movie files using Nero express and the jittering at the end did not occur but using nero express the movie did not take yup the entire disk. Could there be something wrong with extreme outer portion of the whole pack of disks?

It certainly sounds like a media problem. As Bodyslide mentions, the media code is important. The media code will identify the actual manufacturer. A brand of DVD may be made by more than one manufacturer. And sometimes there is just bad batches of them.

If you want to continue to use your present discs, I would make your DVD files smaller and don't burn so close to the outer edge. But try a couple of different brand discs, so you can rule out other problems.

At the risk of sounding really dumb, I have no idea where to find the "media code".There is a long sequence of numbers around the hole in the disk V102CH3508186656E17. Is that the media code? Sorry to be dumb! Thank You for helping me!

I used dvdshrink to re author the movie in the first place. How can I compress it more to keep from using that area at the outer most part of the disk? When I used Nero express it apparently compressed the movie more because The burn I did with Nero burning rom took up the whole disk and stuttered at the end. I burned the same files using Nero Express and it left about a quarter of an inch of space on the disk. No stuttering. Only problem for me is Nero express takes a significantly longer time to burn the disk.Nero Burning rom took about 20 mins. Nero Express estimated 4 hrs and some Mins to do the same movie. I suppose the creation of chapters and stuff like that accounts for the extra time. Not meaning to be picky but want to try and find the best solution. Thanks again!

there are tools here for identifying discs, like dvd identifier.
you can change the target size in dvdshrink under edit/preferences. set it for 'custom' and put a number in the box.

    emt,
I hope this gets to you even though it's been a while since you posted your problem. You need make your final burn at a lower speed. I was doing the same thing. I was burning at 16x and would get stuttering but would get a good one now and then too. I burn everything at 4x (the time difference is NOT that great) and haven't made a coaster since.

There was a time when Maxell DVD media (at least the -R variety) was one of the best that money could buy. Maxell made the discs themselves in Japan.

Then all of a sudden the quality turned to crap and suddenly they appeared to stop making -R media in Japan and started selling MADE IN TAIWAN crap (most MADE IN TAIWAN DVD-R media is crap except for VERBATIM). There were some bad batches of MADE IN JAPAN at the very end but I'm thinking that might have been some overlap as they switched to MADE IN TAIWAN media (in other words the bad "MIJ" media was really the first batch of "MIT" and the package just didn't reflect that yet).

Of course just now I re-read your first post and realized you used +R media but I guess my point is this ... it sounds like a media problem ... Maxell screwed up their -R line of discs so god only knows what they did with their +R line.

However I should point out that while I am well versed in media choices when it comes to -R I know almost nothing of +R discs as I don't believe in using the +R format. After all it's a bastard format of a greedy corporation that didn't want to play fair.
