I have a DVD Camcorder and I want to edit the dvd disc to take out un-wanted video portions. I would like to edit to the frame? if that is possible and I do not want to lose any video or sound quality. I have read posts for 2 days and downloaded 8 trail software programs and it seems most will not " see " the program ( probably because its a .vob format? ) and the others do not edit to the frame-seems they only edit every 3 seconds or so? Is there one program that I can use that will do all, Edit and Join several .vob files into one large DVD? I currently use the Sony DVD disc's that are 30 minutes or 1.4 GB. That is the disc that my camcoder uses. I want to join several of these small disc into one large dvd-r ( 4.7 GB ) Im sure this is possible. I am a newbie so be gentle.

    Thanks for your time!

  2. I just did this for a friend:
    - finalize the miniDVD creating a menu for the disc (chapter menu)
    - copy the content to the PC
    - FixVTS (I need to do this because something is wrong with the information, programs like DVDShrink and even DVDRemakePRO can't fully read the IFOs)
    - use DVDReMakePRO to join 3 full miniDVDs into 1 DVD-R, if you want to join 4 full miniDVDs you can use DVDShrink to compress the video a little to make it fit (not tried yet).

this will be a fast backup for 3 miniDVDs with a start menu and 3 chapter menus for each scene in each miniDVD.

To create a better looking DVD and cut some scenes, I plan to use:
    - VideoReDo to cut the stuff that is not needed
    - DVDlabPRO to create the DVD

if you want to edit the vobs with some of the software you have downloaded try changing the vobs to mpeg first and they may "see" the mpeg file. vob2mpg works fine for me for that job.

there are different kinds of frames in mpeg video and not all can be used to "cut" at. find the closest one that works and go with it. it would be easier if your cam did minidv.

I edit vob files all the time. I can heartily recommend VideoReDo. It will accept vob files as direct input and output vob, mpg, or elementary streams. It is a true value at the asking price and the developers are very responsive in the VRD forums. The only downside is that it does not offer any effects (such as crossfades, fade-to-black etc.)

If you require more than simple cuts, I can also recommend MpegVideo Wizard. VMW does include simple transitions, but it's price is more than double VRD's and it's customer support is not as strong. Good luck.
