I am trying to convert an analog tape to dv format for import into iMovie. I have my "passthrough" Canon XR80 camcorder connected to my VCR and my iMac with the proper cables. iMovie recognizes the camera, but it wants me to insert a dv tape. I know that I can simply copy the analog video to a dv tape and then import that into iMovie, but I'd like to skip that step and send the analog signal through my camera and on to iMovie. I thought that this is what passthrough was supposed to enable me to achieve.
Can anybody tell me if this is possible, or do I have to first copy the analog source to the dv tape?

Answered my own question. Tape has to be in camcorder with AV-DV passthrough enabled. Seems to work fine.
