Anyone know how to change windows' default telnet client (which is hyperterm). Actually, I would like to change how firefox reacts to ssh links, but changing the telnet client would be a good place to start.

Well, if I uninstall HyperTerm, what will be my default telnet app? Probably nothing. I can certainly try, but I don't think it would help.

You would obvoiusly need to install some other Telnet client in it's place.Originally Posted by mike909
If it's only File Extension based, then it's very easy to change what file extensions instantiate what programs. Go to Windows Explorer, and go to Tools > Folder Options > File Types, and change the associations for extensions which you want to use your alternative telnet client. If in doubt, Google it. -
That's exactly how you do it. The Telnet association is right near the top. Select the Telnet URI handler, click Advanced, then New. Enter as follows (assuming you're using Putty here):
Action: Run
Program used to perform action: c:\putty\putty.exe %1
Don't select DDE and click OK, then make it the default action by clicking the appropriate button.
