    I'm definitely new to this flashing/patching business, but let me see if I can tell this straight:
    I used the EEPROM utility and Omnipatcher to change my Lite-On 1633S to a 1653S CS0T. All my applications recognize the drive as a 1653 now. But it looks like the 1653 is supposed to be able to write a DVD-R at 12x. Using 16x media, the drive is still writing at 8x, like it did before.

    I'm using Memorex disks, CMC MAG AM3; my new Sony drive writes them at 16x. In Omnipatcher, I used the defaults plus the "recommended media tweaks."

    Does anyone have any idea why I'm still writing disks at 8x instead of 12x?

    Guess I should have gone there first, since that's where I got the firmware info. Videohelp is just always my first choice.
