  1. After yelling, pulling hair and almost throwing my computer out a window, i FINALLY figured out how to add subtitles to an avi while encoding it to DVD and I felt I should post and maybe save someones poor computer from the fate mine almost met.

I started with an avi file and an idx and sub file. I installed VobSub (https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=VobSub), now I was able to right click on the idx file and chose 'edit with SubResync". From there I was able to save it as an srt. All of these files (idx, sub & srt) have the same name as the avi file it goes with.

I then installed ffdshow (https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=ffdshow). Once install I went to programs/ffdshow/video decoder configuration. i then click 'subtitles' on the left hand side, and then highlight 'subtitles', this should bring up the subtitle configuration. I then checked 'subtitles' on the right near the top.

Once I did all this, i was able to open my Ulead DVD Movies factory and 'poof' my subtitles were there.

maybe I did too much, I am not sure. But while lookink throught this site all I found were lenghty 3-5 step processes that didn't seem to get me anywhere. Most of them were for removing a subtitle from a DVD and adding a new one.

I also tried the VirtulDub method only to find that my new avi was choppy and out of sync. I know there are settings to fix this, but when you are dealing with someone with limited knowledge of the process, that can be worse then the 3-5 step precesses.

I hope this is helpful to someone, and if I did too many steps or if there is an even easier way, please post and help out some poor computer that may be headed out a window.

    :P

Perhaps you should check the guide I wrote using AVI2DVD to do that very thing... AND has a menu too.

Then improve your guide here with screenshots so it's easy to follow, and post it over in the GUIDES section.

I use DVD Lab Pro to author. I can have multiple subtitles, all switchable. Easy to author and much more flexible.
