Does anybody know of any remotes for under $100 brand new factory-boxed which are compatible with CF files? I cannot aford $350 for a one-time region hack procedure.

Better to buy a region free player (@ 1/10 the price), or rip the DVD to region free?

I've heard roomers of a new watermarking feature which according to what the author of the DVD FAQ told me could prevent making copies using DVD Shrink. I didn't buy a Pioneer HTIB so I could use a separate DVD player to play my collection. Yet unless a miricle happens and I can get access to that remote signal, I might have to trade it in for a Yamaha which can be made multi-region compatible while still being DVD-A/SACD capable.

At the very best, that would make it able to track the origin of the rip - not preventing it. And if a new fair use violation (copy protection to MPAA) scheme comes around, it's only a matter of weeks before it's defeated (see ARCOOS).

Well, at least I won half the battle. I still wish I didn't have to spend hours splitting dual-layered DVDs over two single-layered DVDs. Whatever happened to the old idea of buying a movie from anywhere and then popping in your mastercopy--LOL!

The movie industry decided that's not the way it should be.

So are there any remotes out there for under $100 brand new which can load CCF Pronto files?
