I recently purchased an open box/clearance LG LRH-780 HDD/DVD recorder at Future Shop. Unfortunately, the included remote control is not the correct one, it's for a different LG HDD/DVD recorder. It does work, but is missing the TIMER REC button. I've gone back to Future Shop and they checked their bag of extra remotes but no luck. I phoned LG but they could not tell me the model number only the part number for this remote. Would someone who owns this recorder please post the model number on their remote control. Thanks very much.

Hey, gm, my LRH-780 plus remote is in the shop for warranty work right now, but if no one else responds, I'll get you the model # when I get it back (hopefully this week).

In the meantime, are you SURE there's no timer record button on your remote ?? I can't imagine that LG would make a remote for any of their recorders without the timer button !!

Incidentally, I LOVE my LRH-780, due to the superb picture quality.

  3. I also bought a 790 at future shop, also no remote. So please let me know how you get along, as I suspect our remotes are the same. They gave me a remote for one of the dvd only recorders. Like you works partly. No biggy for me though as I have a harmony that can handle everything necessary. Something to consider if replacing the remote proves costly is to buy a harmony, one of the $99 or less models.

There is definitely no timer record button. I did find out some more info today. I went to Future Shop and saw the remote I was received with the LRH-780. The remote is actually for the newer
LRH-880. I checked the 880 manual at the store and to do timer recording it states,

Select "Timer Record" option in the "Home" menu. The "Timer Record List" menu will appear.

Hence, no timer record button. Why LG decided to make this change is anyone's guess.
And yes, I would appreciate the model # when you get your remote back from the shop. Thanks.

  5. I have a similar issue--bought LRH-780 as open box item--remote received was for LRH 880--missing "timer rec" button

It's frustrating! Are there any alternatives?

I have the 790, which only changes one button on the remote, Resolution. Page 10 of the 780/790 [RH1799/1777] manual [search http://ca.lgservice.com/ for your model]. Yes it does have a Timer Rec button next to the Record and Record Mode buttons for both models 780 & 790. No I don't have a part number. It's in the shop too. [Optical drive died] Will post when I receive it back, if no one else has. I think it's a great machine, even got the wife to figure out how to use the trick features. Now using an RJTech 2200DVRX.... what a step down.

I have bought a LRH-790 from future shop for a low price, only because it too, has no remote.. Now I know the product number is 6711R1N205B is for the lrh-780, but is it the exact same number for the lrh-790? I have been checking out the website that has remotes that would work I think, but the product number for it that I saw closest to the manual book picture is the 6711R1N203A. Website I am referring to is: www.electronicadventure.us Has anyone bought from this site, and do they seem to have no problem with the remote that is not exactly the same model number as the ones we are missing?

    Thanks for any replies.

  9. The manual for the LRH-780 & LRH-790 is the same one; go to the diagram of the remote control (p.10)--I believe there is only one remote;same for both models--you can look on the diagram and see if there are any functions listed that are specifically for the LRH-790 only

Hey thanks for the reply.. I cant really see much difference there.. I do need to find a way to order a new replacement remote as I never got the original one in the first place.. I was just curious if I can use a remote that has a different model number then the one I need.. I will keep looking but it will not be easy

Well, it looks like my Luck has come today. I went to Future Shop where I bought the LRH-790, and decided to see if they had any remote controls with the specific model number, and sure enough they did, on a model not meant for it.. So I managed to talk the guy into understanding that the model he had on display, does not match what the remote control can do.. The model number of the LRH-790 remote control is: 6711R1N205A. Since the 780 last 4 digits is 205B, the 790 last 4 digit is 205A. I am now a happy camper, and will be doing my recordings from harddrive to dvd and vice versa. Thanks all for giving advice and whatnot.

Happy ending, I phoned a few Future Shop locations in the GVRD and a salesrep at the Surrey location checked and said he had the remote (6711R1N205B) I needed. I went over to check and there was the remote sitting on a LRH-880 demo unit. We swapped our remotes and now he has the one he needed for his 880 and I have the one I need for my 780.
I had called a couple of local LG service/parts locations and the price for this remote was approx. $20.

Good news to hear.. Enjoy using your 780 machine I too had good luck as I posted earlier that I got the correct remote when it was being viewed for the wrong machine.

Have a good time recording all your favorite shows

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my LRH-780 has been in the shop for a while (no fault of LG; the independent repairman has been ill), so when I found an open box LRH-780 for $150 (missing the remote; sound familiar ??) I grabbed it. My remote for my original LRH-780 is in the shop with the recorder, so I was unable to dub from HDD to Dvd for programs that I wanted to save.

Encouraged by the experiences of ravynne and gm3317, I went to my local Future Shop to see if they had a loose remote that I could buy. A salesman was kind enough to dig out a remote for the LRH-790 (which works perfectly with the 780) which he gave me, no charge, with the provisio that I buy my next A/V purchase from him. Hey, no problem !!

Thanks for relating your stories, guys. It never occurred to me that FS might have a bunch of loose remotes left over from all those remote-less open box sales !!

  16. Whoa, you scored getting the open box one for $150. I was thinking of doing the same thing - checking out a few of the FSes for open box ones .

I paid $150 for my LRH-790 because it was open box, and missing remote. So I find it one heck of a sweet deal myself.. And to be given the correct remote for the 790, makes it all the sweeter. With the remote it would have been $270 as open box

  18. I was able to get my exact remote too after going to a number of Future Shop stores in the GTA.

My Future Shop open-box deal: LRH-780--with remote--$75.00! (plus gas!)

I have a similar problem but for the LRH-880 - I bought an open box 880 without a remote. Can anyone with the 880 remote tell me what the model number of their remote is ? Thanks.

As a follow-up - I ordered model 6711R1N205B (meant for the 780). They told me it wasn't available and got in the 6711R1N205A (note "A" at the end). It seems to do all the basic things that I want for my 880 (timeshift, and timed recordings). Thanks for the info in this thread.
