  1. I used the newest version of Dr. DivX OSS and DivX 6.0.2 codec (the latest you can get off divx site) to convert few DVD's. It is just a little (very little) harder that AutoGK but given that AutoGK no longer works with new DivX codecs I went with Dr. DivX. Video quality is superb, however, I have a problem with audio. AutoGK amplifies sound (AFAIK) while Dr. DivX OSS seem not. I used AC3 and my sound is so weak that at maxed out volume in earphones I can hear converstations only in nearly silent environment. So, that renders the output files nearly useless. What's up with that? Any quick fix around or some settings that I need to play with?

If you used AC3, then wouldn't you have the source AC3 from the DVD? If so then AutoGK would have exactly the same audio.

As far as I know the latest DivX works fine with AutoGK. It was just the earlier 6.x versions and it was only ever an issue with the version string.

Latest DivX is 6.2 anyway isn't it?

You could also try XviD with AutoGK or another encoder.

    6.2.2 according to:

You're right. DVD ripped to hard drive has very weak sound too. I guess I need an amplifier just like AutoGK has.

I got free DivX 6.0 on divx anniversary and used update feature to get the latest codec (or so I understand). I also downloaded the latest AutoGK just yesterday so I must have the updated version. I don't know what's happening but AutoGK compalains about wrong codec being used and offers xvid instead. I don't want to start another xvid/divx debate but I thought that latest divx is slightly better quality plus uses dual core capability of my processor. Please advise if I am on the right track regarding my beliefs.

  4. Updated audio driver and fixed the problem. Stupid me. Anyway, what's up with AutoGK not accepting DivX and my last comment regarding xvid/divx comparison?

    XviD is also multithreaded.
