  1. Has anyone seen this problem before? I have a ton of discs mainly collections of TV episodes and such converted with either DVDsanta or VSO divx to dvd. All of a sudden a couple weeks ago I could no longer view any disks on my player (all my old ones still work) they play on my computer. I put in a new burner, that did not work, I did a full reinstall on my computer, nothing. I have tried different media and different burning software and conversion tools, nothing. I have tried using the same conversion software on a friend's computer and the disks play fine. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Is the problem with your PC or a standalone player?

The player may just be getting picky - assuming there is nothing physically keeping it from reading the disc - clean the disc, if that doesn't work - assume it's the player.

I'd also try in another player, just to make certain.

I did have an old Apex that stopped reading all except commercial DVDs and CDs - any recorded material simply wouldn't play.

With dvd players being as inexpensive as they are now, you can pick up a basic one for $25 or so in some stores; replacement is an option.

Did you change the media type at any point? Some players are a bit finicky over media, especially the el-cheapo stuff. I've noticed many don't like DVD+R (even if it's booktyped properly) or even some brands of DVD-R. Memorex and Fuji DVD-R have always worked fine for me on a Philips DVP-642, Panasonic DMR-E50, Toshiba SD3750, and various Samsungs. Your Mileage May Vary.

  6. I have used a number of different types of media and they worked in the past. Any idea why the disks would work when burned on one computer but not on the other?

  9. According to Activision and Microsoft, Defender can cause some software to not recognize elements of the .Net 2.0 suite and some windows dlls. This in turn causes problems with installation of some software.
