From what ive read using the deep analysis is the best way to go if you want optimum quality, should I use ACE settings? If so which ones. Im just looking at making as good as the original as possible, not looking for miracles.

If you want superb quality use DVD REBUILDER to backup your dvd movies.

My rule is to always use Deep Analysis and use AEC if I have to compress >20%,if I have to compress >35% I split to 2 discs.

Budz,
Im actually trying to fit about 6 gigs of DVD Recorded video onto 1 disc. Ive tried DVD Rebuilder, I cant for the life of me get that thing to work. The CCE and blah blah blah never works, always get error messages. Perhaps someone can direct me towards a good guide I might give it another shot. -
Moviegeek,
Yes I see what your saying, It seems once it hits that 20% mark the quality is very poor. Anything from 10-15% is very very good. -
I am not disputing anyone's claim here, but I still get great results with 30-40% compression.
Then again, I am still using a 27 inch standard def tv.
Deep analysis and AEC smooth are a must for me when using shrink.NEC 3500AG - Firmware 2.TG

I think Deep Analysis + AEC @ Maximum Sharpness gives the best results up to 2.5 hours or so. Quality % doesn't say it all - it's the time length that counts most. I have shrunk some DVD's by as much as 50% (2.5 hours) using this method and I can't see much of a difference.

I think all these are a factor.
I backed up my Star Trek TNG collection using Shrink with AEC (default) sharp.
All discs were around the 60% mark. They look great. For these I'm using S-Video on an analog 36" Toshiba. Great analog TV.
Others confirm AEC-Smooth.
Suggest trying one of each and compare using same player of course.
The sharp setting appears to give a little more detail whereas smooth seems to soften the pic somewhat.

I use DVD Rebuilder with the free HC encoder set to Highest Quality.
Very easy and it looks great.
I only do main movie on all my back-ups.For the love of God, use hub/core labels on your Recordable Discs! -
