    Hi,

Been given a DVD which was burned in a standalone DVD Recorder, going by the menu at the start.

However, my DVD Player doesn't accept it.

It does play on the PC, though it cannot be forward/rewound - just skip through chapters.

I tried to reburn it thinking it was a media problem, but my DVD does not accept it still.

Also, DVD Decrypter, when creating an ISO from it had loads of warnings about no header.

A guess is it may have not been finalised.

But then copies were made of this unfinalised disc.

So I thought I would strip the video footage from it using TMPGEnc MPEG Editor, then reauthor it it TMPEG DVD Author and all would be well.

However, when trying to use the wizard to choose the DVD Video from it, it says that it could not retrieve the information from it.

Do I have any other options?

    Cheers.

P.S. The structure of the DVD is a VIDEO_TS and VIDEO_RM folder.

The VIDEO_RM contains .USR files, as well as .BUP and .IFO.
The VIDEO_TS contains .BUPs and chapters.

The start menu looks like this:

Hope that may give clues as to what DVD Recorder was used and how I can make it into a fully working DVD.

  2. Video RM folder means you have a VR format recording (VRO files). Some DVD recorders that have VR format recording use some non-standard resolutions like 480x480 for various recording lengths, and thus are not be compatible with DVD-Video... even though it will play on your PC, it will not work in a standard DVD player, and can't be re-authored either.

If that is not the problem (in other words, your VRO file is in a standard PAL DVD resolution like 720x576), then try simply saving the VRO file to your desktop, then rename the file with the MPG extension. You shouldn't have to extract or decrypt a file created by a DVD recorder, however sometimes VRO files can be buggy.

If your computer can't "see" the VRO files, that's another issue.

    Thanks for the reply.

I have had a look, and there are no .VRO files in the RM folder. In fact the RM folder is only a couple of Megs in size.

It is the VIDEO_TS folder which is 3-4 Gig in size.

I have tried opening the VOB files in TMPEG MPEG Editor, but an error appears. Only the VIDEO_TS.VOB file loads up and that just contains the menu.

  4. Try re-authoring the DVD using the "movie only" function with DVD Shrink. That might work if DVD Shrink can load the disc and scan the movie successfully like your software DVD player does. If it works, you will have created a whole new DVD folder with corrected VOB files that will work in other applications.

It's really odd that the disc contains both VIDEO RM and VIDEO TS folders. That might be the problem.
