Here's a list of compatible players. Just do a Google search for specific models: http://ww2.nero.com/nerodigital/enu/DVD_Player_Recorder.html

They are mostly just available in Europe.

Here's one AVAYON DXP-1000 model available in the US, about $70US from their site: http://www.avayon.com/pages/our.html#1

  4. Trident5,

They may not still be available, but Sears had the JSI 4127 DVD player that (though it does not advertise this fact) plays Nero Digital standard profile files very nicely. It even supports chapter stops and subtitles. Well under $100 last I looked and can upscale through HDMI if you have an HDTV with that. I've reviewed it on this site. It's an excellent player for AVI/MPEG/MP4.

I believe some of the more recent Zoran Vaddis chipsets support Nero Digital playback (The JSI is one such player).

  6. JSI is the brand name. The model number is JS4127. They seem to have disappeared though.

  7. Hi,

Yes, Jagabo got the model number right, thanks. Sorry if I confused anyone.

Trident5, what you may want to do is look at some of the newer players coming out now that use the Zoran Vaddis chipset and also advertise DivX playback. It is very possible that you'll be pleasantly surprised like I was and Nero Digital standard profile files may play.

The newest Philips players, for example, are DivX Ultra certified (they play DivX 6 files with menus, chapters and such) and I *think* they use the newest Zoran Vaddis chips, which means in theory at least they can play Nero Digital files. Whether they actually implemented this functionality is another story I guess. (Please don't confuse these new players with the infamous DVP-642, whose chipset cannot play some of the newer filetypes).

Here's an example of one, available at Best Buy. It's also available at Circuit City.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7686097&type=product&productCategoryId=c...=1134703758550

You can give it a try, worst thing that happens is you have to return it. Keep in mind the player might only be cabable of standard profile Nero Digital files only (that is the case with the JSI). If you do get it working though, please let folks here know, I think many people would be very interested.

The DVP-5140 and PROBABLY the DVP-5960 (although it isn't certain) are Mediatek-based.

As to playing Nero Digital files? Uh-uh (at least on the 5140).

Unlike the DVP-642, which recognized the MP4 container, and could play MPEG-4 ASP/MP3 files muxed into the container, the DVP-5140 doesn't even list MP4 files in the disc menu... I tried.

With the current firmware, at least, MP4 files are invisible in the menu, which obviously rules out Nero Digital

  9. This Nero digital support must become popular so most people would have it, otherwise one cannot send something to another person if he/she can't watch it also down the line if you make an archive of your movies and the system goes obsolete we are stuck with so many memories that can't watch like all the 8mm I have but don't have a working projector or time to convert them. Besides that Nero digital doesn't do Mpeg and it has to be dvd so considering time and effort one would go with dvd specially for a good 2 hour it would go over a gig so one might as well go with dvd.

  10. Check out the Avayon DXP-1000 at www.avayon.com.

Plays just about everything, including Nero Digital.

I ordered a refurb unit as a test, found it more than met my expectations, then ordered a new one for a family member. Primary difference seems to be the warranty period (90 days vs. 1 year).

Shipping was free for either version and response time (and some extra shipping considerations I requested) were excellent.
