  1. i'm trying to convert my 30 avis to dvd. each avi is about 1hr 20 mins length and i'm trying to compress 2 movies in one dvd with some acceptable loss in quality.
i tried winavi converter but it doesnt allow me to add more than 1 file even when a setting of medium quality dvd gives files that can be burnt a single dvd i.e. 2 movies on a dvd. also the audio is not good it's somewhat supperessed. even when i removed the ac3 parameter. my source file has mp3 source.
i tried avs converter but even after a long wait the files converted dont have good pic quality.
i tried xilisoft video converter and set the bitrates so as the 2 movies can be accomodated on a single dvd. on trying to author with TMPGEnc DVD Author. i got messages saying the 603*390 resolution is not supported and the frame rate i.e. 29.75 fps is not supported.

plz help me. it'll be extremely helpful if some can tell me how to add 2 files to winavi bcoz its the fastest converter i've seen. and also how to get good audio from that.
also any help regarding adding 2 different vob sources made from 2 different runs of winavi can be merged.

In order to get 2 hours and 40 minutes on a DVD (see first post) with good video quality you do not need to lower the audio quality. Reducing the audio bitrate makes only a very small difference and using 1/2 DVD resolution or 2-pass VBR encoding are far better ways to get more video on one disk.

To the OP: Try something better than winavi, sad to say but it's crappy. Convertxtodvd, like Baldrick suggests, is likely what you need.

Have you thought about burning the movies to Data DVD? You can fit 4.3GB of data onto a DVD. Not sure how big your movies are but you might be able to fit 4 or 5 movies onto one disc. You'll need a player that will play these AVI files but they're pretty cheap. I use a Philips 642 (bought my friend one for her birthday at Walmart for $47 last month).

If you have to convert them to DVD then DivxToDVD is the way I'd go (you can still find the free version if you look hard enough) and then use TDA to author the DVD.

On your machine, I would suggest around 3 hours per 90 minutes of avi. However it does vary from movie to movie.

  8. and i also have some small files like 9 mins videos from dexter's lab.
there are about 45 in total. but my conversion has been horrible reducing them to somewhat low quality ones. so can i convert them so as they fit in 2-3 dvd or so. what i mean is like conversion on basis of file size and quality and not on just conversion to dvd using very high bitrate so as to convert it to dvd.
and can i add ac3 audio to files when the source file has mp3 audio??? plz help in that.
sorry for so many questions altogether bcoz the convertx guides are not elaborate ones.

The ConvertXtoDVD guides aren't eleborate because it is a simple program with few options. It will automatically convert mp3 audio to ac3, because mp3 is a) rubbish, and b) not DVD compliant. You do have to realise that you are limited by the quality of your source. If your source is low res, over compressed download material, the you will not get DVD quality or even near-DVD quality in return. Also, if you use a simple program like ConvertXtoDVD then you will be restricted in the options you have to address it - no filters, full D1 res etc.

At 9 minutes a piece, you should be able to ge 10 episodes to a disc at good quality or better, assuming the originals aren't low res crap.

Converting movies from divx back to dvd is time consuming at best. The odds of you getting all 30 movies in 2 days is slim. however one thing you can do make best use of your time, try using NeroVision you can select to put a few shows onto a dvd, it can convert and you can setup your authoring at same time leave blank in drive and it can burn when done. your results wont be as sharp as some others but you can set it to go have a sleep come back and disc is done

This will probably be slower than creating DVDs from ConvertXtoDVD, but anyway.

AutoGK is pretty simple and foolproof
Virtualdub if you want more control
AVIRecomp might be worth a look

So long as the names match completely, including case, and so long as srt subs are supported, they should work.

If your AVIs are already in a format that your player can read then you don't need to do anything to them, just burn to disc as data. If you need to get them to a size that will fit on one CD then use the programs that Guns1inger suggested.

You can burn them as fast as your burner and media will burn. If you burn to CD, that could be as fast as 52x.

    I don't have a clue about subtitles.
