Not sure if this is the right forum or not, but anyway, had a Pioneer 107D and burned a couple of hundred Ritek G05 DVD-R's at 8x using Nero without a problem. Just upgraded to a 111D and now get message from Nero right at the end of an 8x burn that the write has failed. Have firmware 1.19. Downgraded to orginal 1.06 and same thing happens. Discs seem to play alright in standalone players, but because the burns are not reporting as completing, I don't know if there are hidden problems. Tried burning at 6x and all is well. Any one else finding this? What can I do to fix this, as I find it strange that a later burner has problems with this media at it's rated speed. I know it's not the greatest media, but I've not had any problems prior to upgrading the burner

Andylitt,
This is only a stab in the dark, but have you tried changing the IDE cable on the drive? Also, do any other types of media cause this problem?
Sorry I can't be any more help. Hopefully it will be something simple like this - happened to me, and it took a million coasters before I realised...

Best fix is to throw away the G05's. Do some reading on the forums, and you won't find very many people who will use Ritek G05's. They degrade very rapidly...

Just burned an Imation disc (CMC Media) at 8X no problems. Must just be the Riteks. Strange how the older burner had no trouble at 8x with them, but the newer one fails.

Similar (but the other way around) story on my end. I bought loads of Taiyo Yuden discs (Plextor, so decent discs) which is considered the best kind of media. I had no issues with burning it, and upon testing the disc it came out brilliantly. It won't play very well in one of my Pioneer DVD player, but it plays fine in the other two Pioneers.
It annoys me how hit-and-miss DVD media is.
