due to a poll HERE, I see that 50% of people use Firefox compared to 32% for IE at VH even though my old site stats show IE in front. So I'm just wondering what extensions people are using that they find very useful and won't do without 8)

some of the ones I have at the moment are :
    IE Tab extension
    adblock
    noscript
    sessionsaver
    Image Zoom
    FoxyTunes

I find the IE Tab extension great as you can have the best of both worlds. Yeah IE 7 is out (with tabs, wow this will attract all the FF users back! ) but again it's just not customisable like FF is. The IE extension allows you to load pages using the IE engine so any sites you have problems with when using FF are no more. It's a simple icon click to switch between the 2 engines but the beauty is that's it's all within FF 8)

using the likes of adblock & noscript extensions I can block annoying ads/graphics from the likes of afterdawn or stop all the crap some very legitimate sites throw upon you (you don't need to visit pr0n/warez sites to get annoyed by all the crap etc). If you use FF and don't have adblock you don't know what you are missing and noscript is a great bonus as you can basically block anything one a simple graphic to a complete site loading 8).

thanks to someone just recently I have installed sessionsaver and that saved me within a day. My PC crashed and I was posting something in a forum and had a few tabs open while doing otehr stuff. When I restarted the PC it restored all the pages I had open in FF and even had my reply in the text box.

another is Image Zoom which allows you to resize pics with a simple click on your mouse and a roll of your scrollwheel. so you can shrink large images or zoom into smaller images with ease. For my music I use FoxyTunes which put a little control panel in the status bar so I rarely ever load the actual media player window

and of course you can get many skins for FF and other things so you can customise it even more 8)

so seeing as there are many things to try and people may not know what they are missing I started this thread. Does anyone have any suggestions for other extensions and reasons why it's worth a look and maybe provide a link?

I'm not really interested in reasons why FF is better than IE or vice versa (the linked poll above is there for that ) but rather wanting suggestions to help improve FF even more

Adblock is amazing. Its not just for ads, but let's you block out annoying things on websites like random music and videos.

Forecastfox is nice for weather updates and seeing what the weather will be like tomorrow. New version also has a radar image that pops up when moused over.

    Tabmix.

SmoothWheel I use because I'm a visual guy. I like the smooth movement of the page instead of the deafult jerking movement.

I use Whitehart as my theme. Doesn't get any more basic than that.

yeah, I use it to block out those too 8). Again if people haven't got it and don't use it then you don't know what your missing . I'm gonna take a look at smoothwheel, cheers

@BJ_M, Mediaplayerconnectivity and Imgshack extensions look interesting so I'll have a look at those also

surely other members must be using extensions seeing as 50% of you here use FF? come on now don't be shy 8)

I just had to try it but it didn't work properly for me with 1.0.7 with a few things, mainly the tabs being overlapped by the leopard skin

  11. I found a very useful extension called MR Tech Local Install. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/421/ It makes all your old extensions compatible with new versions of Firefox and ThunderBird. To use after installing click on Tools - Extensions - Tools - Make All Compatible and restart Firefox or ThunderBird. I have been using this on all my extensions that haven't been upgraded and so far it works great.

I've found a really useful extension, it's called Linkification. It converts text to links automatically. So for instance if theres plain text on a page that starts with http:// it will automatically become a link.

Two extensions that I use all the time are All-in-One Gestures and ISMsend. All-in-One adds mouse gestures to Firefox. It took a little while to get used to mouse gestures, but now, it is hard to do without. ISMsend lets you send a text message from the toolbar to a cel phone. Very convenient for quick messages.

mozImage - a utility for browsing images on your HD

copyURL+ - copies the current documents URL + title and/or any selected text. Very useful if you need to take notes from multiple sites and need to know where they came from.

Download Statusbar - great for managing/keeping track of downloads.

DeskCut - adds the functionality of IEs create shortcut that places a link to the webpage on the desktop. Supports Linux (KDE/GNOME).

I also use several of the above mentioned including FoxyToons, SessionSaver, ImageZoom and NoScript.

Man, I have 30+ extensions on my browser. I consider, All-in-One Gestures, Image Zoom, Zoomy, Session Saver, and Adblock to be mostly Mission Critical. IE Tab is also very handy, so is Tab Mix Plus and VideoDownloader/Flash Got. I also like Cards & Blockfall amongst others.

All-In-One Gestures rocks. I haven't put any extensions on my Linux or Unix boxes yet, so don't know how it fares there. I use very few extensions for security reasons...more extensions mean more potential attack vectors, but I can't live without the mouse gestures. That extension for playing external media looks like something worth trying. I also use a modified Spywareblaster blocklist to block unwanted cookies. That, plus disabling XPInstall, Java and having Flash LSOs disabled, tightens up pretty much all conceivable security concerns.
