When I add my AVI file in the Get Movies option it starts to create... then the Burn button has an X in it and when I click Burn it says the file is to large....the file is 738MB..are there certain parameters for AVI files? I have no problem converting mpeg-2's to DVD...

MtDVD must be setting a bitrate that is too high for the space. See if you can alter the bitrate manually. If so, use a bitrate calculator to calculate the numbers you need to make it fit.

How do I find the current AVI resolution of my file to alter?
should it be equal to what an mpeg-2 is(720x480 NTSC)?

Resolution isn't your issue. I don't know where you got that idea from. The problem is when MyDVD converts to mpeg it uses a bitrate that makes the files larger than a single DVD. This is the value you need to alter.

If you want to find out about your video, try gspot 2.52b or avicodec.

  5. The file size depend only on duration (how long it play) and bitrate. No resolution, no size of the source.
And to answer your question - GSpot.
