  1. I filmed some footage on my MiniDV camcorder, but upon getting the video out of the camera the audio level is too soft with too much soft background hiss.

While I can jack up the sound in editing, I need to clean it up as the background hiss also increases when I do that.

Is there an audio filter I can run the AVI through to deal with this issue?

What are my options here....freeware preferred of course...

If you want to experiment with a freeware audio editor, try Audacity. It will take WAV audio or MP3. Lots of filters.

  4. I think before I can use any of these I need to seperate the audio and video streams right? I think i can do that in VirtualDub....(????)

Like save the audio from the file as a WAV, then apply the filters to the wave, then bring the audio and video back together??

Is there any way to just work on the audio natively in the video? Audicity tried to load the entire DV file...with humorous results since it appeared to be looking for an MP3.
