Both my friend and I upgraded our computers with new MB/CPU and with a BENQ DQ60 DVD burner using NERO OEM Suite. (However, still using Windows 98 )
I have no problems with DVD's, but, he has run in one when playing DVD using NERO's Showtime 2.00.39
When it first was installed all was fine, but, now after flashing the firmware and downloading Microsoft Windows upgrades (both which I also did) his playback has become very troublesome.
First, When The DVD is put into the drive, it is not automatically noticed.
Two, Even if Showtime is manually started, it has to be told to look in the DVD drive for the DVD.
Three, Even after all that, the play button has to be pressed before the DVD starts. And even then one it not sure that the DVD would start, or all you would get is NERO's splash screen.
Four. But, if one does not mind going threw hoop to start the DVD, the result can be either a perfect play or more likely one with choppy sound and video. Especially on his Shanna Twain music DVD.
I have tried moving the Graphic Accelerator slider in display setting from left to right. And that has made still capturing possible. But, nothing else seems to work.
Any help would be appreciative.

If you are running W98 on a 64bit processor, that seems like a major waste of resources.
But I would try a different software player.
I don't have much faith in Nero for a video player. He might try the demo of PowerDVD. I use Zoom player as it has a DVD mode and lots of options for playback, especially the pay version.
Beyond that, if the problems started after flashing the firmware, I would look into that further. A problem with that is more likely than the Windows updates. Make sure the flash version used was the proper one. Try reversing it if possible if you find no other problems that would be effecting playback. Usually CD Freaks has good info on firmware flashing and Benq. And the DQ60 is not that great of burner from what I have read. -

If he is having problems with DVD playback, think about updating to the newer version. It seems the one released the end of April solved some of my problems. Before you do that, you might want to go and change the DVD Navigator from Nero to Microsoft and see if it helps.
Next, possibly there is some type of driver conflict. If you check the NeroHistory.log in C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero7\Core at the bottom you will see a line that says "Existing Drivers". Nero lists drivers that might conflict with it. The Nero site says not to remove any drivers unless Tech Support says you need to, but it might give you an indication of what might be happening.
You might consider using the Clean tool for Nero 7 available on the Nero site to remove everything and then reinstall. Make sure you have the serial number. -
Thanks for the help.
But, the answer was to dowload and install the update file NVE-3.1.0.25_no_yt.exe from the nero website.
That did the trick
