I've got the original Creative PMC player. For those that don't know - this only plays videos converted to WMV 10. However the WMV file can only play with a resolution of 320 x 240.

Is there a way - like a header trick - to take my 640 x 480 WMV file and make the player think it's encoded at 320 x 240? I don't care if it will only display the 640 x 480 file as 320 x 240... assuming it works

Even if you don't know for sure. If you can think of software that may make this work, please let me know and 'll give it a spin

Now why would I want to attempt this? Because when the time comes that my litle player dies (3 years out) I expect the newer players to be able to handle higher WMV resolutions. If that's the case I can simply reverse the 'header trick' (or whatever it is that works) and have a file I can use at higher resolutions on the new player without having to re-encode my entire PMC library from scratch.

I currently have over 60 gigs of video material for the player... in little over a year of ownership. It occured to me today that if the player lasts another 2 years I'll have a lot of media that will need to be redone for a new player - I'd rather not.

Not interested in getting a newer player now. The only issue i have is the size of my unit. But the trade off is I get 8 hours of straight video before the battery needs a recharge. I don't want to give that up. No other issues.
