  1. OK, complete newbie here..I've tried digging through the past postings, help files, etc, but unfortunately since I have no idea what I'm doing, I have no basis for what I need to be looking for. :P

I've got several video clips that I want to put onto DVD. That's not the issue...using MyDVDStudio to do that. The problem is that the video clips are not formatted properly to a TV screen. I'm losing about an inch on each side off the screen, and I just want to add a border to the file so it's not getting clipped.

The videos are all fairly small, mostly xvid and divx format. I've tried using a few different programs, but I have absolutely NO clue what I'm doing. I've tried using a few programs, but mostly I just get error messages. I don't even know what program to use (preferably something freeware, free software, etc. I want to do this, but I don't need to that badly.)

Even if someone could just post a link or two to point me in the right direction, what program to use, steps to take. Thanks!

VDub and one of the null transform filters, perhaps?

  3. Alright..downloaded VirtualDub, and under filters hit the null transform. When I try to load one of the files that I'm trying to play with, though, I get "VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR encoding in the source AVI file (audio stream 1)..blah blah". When I hit Yes when it asks me if I want to rewrite the header, I get an error message that it couldn't locate the decompressor for XVID, and that it can only do a direct stream copy. So I get audio, but no video.

For vdub , add the video resize filter , you can then box it ... when you return to the previous filter "add" area , it will be listed ... over and down to the right , clipping has been enabled for further adjustment .

Frame serve to bbmpeg (check guide's , I have done one of that)

When resizing ... if you do use clipping , you should adjust the resize to take into account of the same amount of clipping you wish to apply ...

In the case of full d1 resolution for pal , being 720x576 , then if clipping equal's :

    4 bottom
    10 top

    8 left
    12 right

    Then resize would need to be 720 + 8 + 12 = 740 new width , 576 + 4 + 10 = 590 new hieght .

This when clipping is used , using the above formula , will output 720x576 ... allowing for as near perfect removal of unwanted garbage , and the repositioning , and centering of wanted material .

Which bbmpeg wont have any problem's with .

Thing's people may not be aware of when encoding ... or don't quite understand how it's done .

    Edited :

Make sure xvid codec installed .

If so , you may be the victim of screwed up directshow filter's , because of the xvid vdub error .
Use nic's fourcc to change that file .. open avi , set both box's to xvid , and apply ... stange behaviour , but this dose work for vdub .

As for vbr audio , tell vdub to leave it alone .
Go to audio , set to full processing , save as wav .
Now go back to audio , sellect wav (locate this new wav that was extracted) , should be fine now .

Note : to frameserve to bbmpeg ...

Go to audio , set to full processing , go to audio , conversion , set to 48khz , stereo , 16bit ... bbmpeg wont complain now .
