I have a video that has blue borders on the left & right. I want to create black borders to COVER up the blue borders.

I don't want to resize.... because the blue borders will still be there if I resize...

  2. So you want same dimensions, but to cover up the blue borders with black borders?

If so, crop the blue borders, then add back black borders by the same #pixels. You could do this in avidemux, or avisynth + some encoder that accepts avs scripts. Eitherway you would have to re-encode the video

avidemux always makes the audio out of sync for me... and the other method is too complicated. Is there any other softwares >_> ?

  4. Nothing easy to use that I can think of

What is your source format? You don't have to re-encode the audio, just copy it.

Then you are doing something wrong....or trying to border some odd-ball format video. AviDemux is my first choice for border work. My second choice is VirtualDub with the Border Control filter.

it doesn't seem to matter if I re-encode the audio in avidemux or not. It will still be out of sync. I used to use avidemux to cut segments out of MKV files...

the out-of-sync is not very noticeable unless you pay very close attention to the lips of the person talking in the video.

My video is AVI (recorded from FRAPS). I haven't done any encoding/editing on it yet.

  7. mkv is different than avi from fraps

if you are using h.264 in mkv, you have to cut on keyframes. fraps is all I-frame so you can cut anywhere

  9. try a short test, and if it's still giving you issues, try what hech54 suggested with vdub, crop, and the border filter. You can still use direct stream copy for audio

also make sure that your fraps video is in sync to begin with (that there weren't dropped frames etc... which can cause sync issues)

You don't need to crop with the Border Control Filter. It works just like the one in AviDemux.....blacken border without changing the size of the video.

  11. Or VirtualDub: Fill (left border), Fill (right border).

I have another question, howcome everytime I encode a video using x264vfw encoder, the video is out of sync with the audio? It never happens when I encode to Xvid. Is there a setting in x264vfw encoder that I need to set for it not to be out of sync?

  13. It's usually because h.264 can be problematic in .avi container with b-frames. It can also be from a decoding issue (some players will handle h.264 in avi better than others)

I wouldn't use x264vfw or avi container if you are using h.264 at all; I would use x264cli or one of the GUI's like handbrake, ripbot264, megui with a .mp4 container or .mkv container. These are updated more frequently and have more bugfixes, better support

If you insist on using x264vfw, make sure you use a modern build, and then maybe try re-wrapping with mkvmerge or yamb

I had an out of sync issue once; it was a strange one. No matter what I did, the re-encode from a blu-ray was out of sync. It turned out to be a frame rate issue. Mediainfo reported the frame rate as 30fps (30000/1001) when the raw video was really 24fps with pulldown flag to make it 30fps. eac3to demux was the only tool that reported the frame correctly as 24fps. So when I re-encoded forcing to use 24fps all sync issue were gone.

I say all that to say, make sure you are re-encoding to the correct frame rate.
