Use GSpot (v2.52 beta) on your compressed files. Post screenshots of the info so we can see the details of the files you're trying to join.

What error message are you getting?

TMPGEnc is for MPEGs - your AVI has been compressed using the Xvid codec, so TMPGEnc is no good. Hence the error message.

    Use VirtualDub instead.

There's plenty of guides for VirtualDub - read the ones relevant to you. They can either be found on the page for the tool, or in the "How To..." set of links on the left side of the screen <---.
