  1. So I am trying to burn a movie (avi file), but Toast has to encode it first. It is like 95% complete, then this error appears: "Result code = -50"

The encoding does not finish and I am unable to burn.

Also...when I play it on VLC I hear audio, but none with quicktime.

    Any ideas what is wrong?

    Thank You.

    Which Toast? Six? Seven? Sub-version?

Have you checked support.roxio.com for updates to
your software or for the meaning of that code?

  3. Are you trying to burn a playable DVD, or just making a data disc?

As for the audio, VLC handles those files better than QT does. But I use a GREAT program called MPEG Streamclip which will convert video files to either dv, mpeg or avi. It will also convert the audio so you can hear it using QT.

  5. result code errors are passed directly from the mac os to toast... toast then reports them.

so... it's a mac os error... searching on apple's site brings up about 500 different causes of the -50 error... but it's most likely related to an issue between the source file and the burned copy.

are you using the mac while burning?
don't move the file around... don't rename it... don't try and play it...
better yet... don't do anything until burning is done.

have you tried playing the entire file through to the end in a player app before burning?
    does it work?

have you tried saving as a disc image instead of burning it?

have you tried turning verification off?

  6. yes I turned verification off. I am just trying to burn a tv episode to view on dvd player.

and I am running Toast 6 Titanium.

  7. When it comes to video (DVD and otherwise), Toast 7.x is light years better than Toast 6.

I'm not saying that upgrading will address your specific problem, as I've not seen it before, but Toast 7 solved numerous compatibility, video/audio sync and other issues right out of the box for me.
