  1. I have a few MPG2 files that can be burned to a DVD. I want to get the maximum amount on my DVD. Right now these mpg2 files totalling aproximately 6 gig, which is too much for a 4.7 DVD. How can I shrink these mpg2 files in their entirety to all fit on a DVD?

My only solution, that I thought of so far, is to put a few mpg2 files on a dvd and use the "DVD Shrink" program.

I think there might be an easier way.

    Anyone have any other ideas?

You can transcode, and Shrink is an option, as is rejig. Shrink requires you already have the DVD structures in place. Rejig can transcode the mpg files before you author.

The issue with transcoding is that is may severly reduce the quality, depending on the amount of compression already used.

What is the running time of the video ?

The other option, which will take longer, is to re-encode at the correct bitrate (a bitrate calculator will tell what this is). The best approach is always to encode at the correct bitrate in the first place, rather than encode too big and transcode or re-encode to fit later on.

  3. The MPEG2 files total approximately 2 hrs with a very high bitrate.

I wouldn't mind reduce the Bitrate to make them fit. I am not concerned about having to reduce some of the quality to do this.

Does Rejig do that for me or are there also other programs that would do this?

Yes, Rejig can do this. Just give it a size and it will reduce it to fit.

Or author first to get a DVD structure, then use Shrink with Deep Analysis and AEC.

Do you want a DVD or just an mpg file at the end of this process ?

  5. My end result will be having a DVD.

I probably would use TMPGenc DVD Author.

In that case I would author first, allowing for the creation of an oversized disc, then run it through Shrink.
