Pioneer introduced their new crop of recorders at CES 2006. Among their entries was the Pioneer DVR-640HS equiped with a 160GB HDD and the ability to playback various formats including DivX.

According to the Pioneer press release the unit ships in June 2006. Does anyone know how reliable this realease dates are?

The Pioneer website doesn't seem to list it except for press releases, so apparently it's not in production yet. Usually even pre-production units are reviewed by some of the DVD recorder sites and I don't see that either, so it looks like you may be waiting a while yet.

The past couple Pioneer model changes showed up about a month after their announced date. However, this one may be on time because Pioneer has no current product available as far as I can tell. There should be no concern about moving out the old stock.
