  1. I was wondering how do i get the hightest quality possible when ripping a dvd? does it matter what software you use or what codec to use when ripping them?

I like to make music videos with movies. and tv shows that i have on dvd. and i would like to get the quality of them to look like the dvd its self.

These are the current software and settings i use

    A1 DVD ripper

    Divx 6 codec

    640x352 Resolution.

    Lame mp3 Audio

    Frame rate - 29.97

Zoom- Full (4/3 or 16/9 input)

Please if anyone can please do so. thanks

As soon as you reduce the resolution and re-encode you reduce the quality and can no longer call it DVD Quality.

That said, there are plenty of freeware tools to do this, so don't pay money for one.

  4. fairuse wizard is a good start for a program that's easy to use (snag the free version from the tool page...celtic druid's build of it.....and if you like it, you may consider a donation to the original author...other than that, there's staxrip (also a good freeware program) and autoGK (once again, good and free) these are the tools i generally recommend for those that are still relatively new to the whole video thing....as they are all extremely easy to use, and they all output very good quality files....btw, throw out that dvd ripper and get dvd fab decrypter instead....

also, as far as what's "near" dvd quality...that's all in the eyes of the end user.......keep at it until you find quality settings that work for you....

Sounds like you're looking for a configuration guide for your codec of choice rather than the full kit and caboodle guide of how to do the entire process.

However I'd recommend AutoGK if DivX 6 and Lame MP3 are your target codecs, although XviD works better on a number of levels for my individual circumstances.
    If in doubt, Google it.

DVD Fab Decryptor (latest version) causes a hard reset on my (stable for the last 4 years) PIII system. Staxrip and AutoGK don't work on my friend's $8,000 P4 liquid cooled overclocked system. Staxrip doesn't like the Xvid codec and won't load while AutoGK 2.27 has a known bug that disallows the encoded avi file to be written to the hard drive after the 2nd pass. Haven't tried an earlier version but might wait til the author produces his final, final version (2.26 was supposed to be that).....
