I own a laptop with an HD-DVD drive and HDMI out that I've used as a make-shift player for my OWN HD-DVD's. Some exclusive HD-DVD's just can't be watched in DVD so I make do with the laptop in order to get the 1080p picture (Stardust, Transformers).
I also own a PS3 to watch purchased Blu-Rays.
Since I own the HD-DVD's, the hardware etc. I'd like to find a way to play an HD-DVD back-up on my PS3 in mp4 format if this is legal.
I've searched this topic and can probably peice together the process with guides on HD-DVD -> .mkv and a seperate guide on .mkv -> .mp4 but I wouldn't mind finding out if someone has either done this or can verify that it can be done while preserving audio/video quality. I don't want a 720p version of Transformers.
Furthermore having a more complete guide from start to finish would be helpful.
If anyone can point me to such a guide or provide me with feedback I'd appreciate it.
If this topic has been discussed or adressed I appologise and a mod can go ahead and remove this.

I don't have an answer for you, however, when working with video, you want to encode/convert as few times as possible from start to finish. Every time a file is encoded/converted, there is quality loss.
