I use DVD Shrink to make backups of videos for the kids without the bad scenes or language. But I am finding the DVD Shrink is becoming out of date I am looking for something as quick and easy as DVD Shrink. I see other programs that use Real (I will NEVER us Real I don't like the product) and don't want to spend time encoding. DVD Shrink was real simple, simple cuts and the quality was good at least for the kids.

Does anyone know of a program that simular to DVD Shrink and actually works.

    Thanks

...but not many as good and simple to use as DVDShrink. Like hech54 says, if the "rip" part of Shrink has problems with a particular disc, just rip it to HDD with DVDFab Decrypter first.

I totally agree with you both, I still use DVDShrink too. Just posted to let web_maven know about other apps.

    I will try that DVDFab.

I have looked at the Tools section and was not happy with anything.

You know when someone was on to something good when a program is still good even a few years after development stopped.

  7. I've continued to use DVDShrink with the help of AnyDVD.. Yes I know AnyDVD cost a little $ but it really paid for itself when my wife ordered a season set of Mclouds (think thats it) Daughters from Aussie Land (without letting me know of course) and our players didn't care for the PAL format.

I was able to back 'em up region free with DVDShrink along with AnyDVD and she is once again a happy camper.

So if your willing to invest and go with AnyDVD along with Shrink, you should be able to enjoy the same results for quite some time and keep other members of your family happy

    DVDShrink is a transcoder

    Other popular transcoders include:

    DVDFab Express
    CloneDVD2
    DVD2ONE

... and although I've never used it I think NERO comes with a transcoder that is made by the person (or persons) behind DVDShrink.

Another interesting program is the original DVDFab (now called DVDFab Gold). This program will allow you to split a dual layer DVD across two single layer DVD discs so that you get to keep everything at 100% quality. Last time I used it the program would try to keep any and all extras on Disc 1 and the split would happen part-way through the movie and which point you would be instructed to put in the 2nd Disc to see the rest of the movie. Not a bad solution for a 100% quality back-up especially if you have a DVD player that is a 5-disc model (so you don't have to get up to switch discs).

Of course now-a-days you have DVD+R Dual Layer discs and when they are on sale they are as cheap as about $2.00 each which ain't bad. When I first got into DVD burning a single DVD disc (single layer) was about $3.50 each on the retail level.
