*NOTE that the player's size is very important, and I wouldnt want to have some big-size player that won't fit into my pocket.

-Size of an iPod Video or Creative Vision:M would be a great size to have, a little bit larger would be fine, as long as it isnt way too big and hard to carry around
-LCD screen should be at least 2.5", I dont want any smaller than this. Resolution should also be at least 320x240 pixels.
-It *MUST* be able to read subtitles (.sub or .srt, etc..) as I am thinking of Creative Vision:M as my first choice but I am having trouble with the fact that it does not support subtitles
-DivX-support is required, which most of the players nowdays should be supporting this codec by now.
-It should be able to support AC3 too, as Creative Vision:M did not. Some of the movies I ripped have AC3 audio codec, and the choice I choose (Creative Vision:M) -- did not support this audio codec, and the video did not have the audio.
-The longer the battery life it is, the better

To summarize it up, I want either MP3 Player with Video feature, or a Portable Media Player, that is able to play DivX movies, able to play subtitles, and support AC3 codec. Ignoring the fact that Creative Vision:M couldnt read subtitles files and AC3 audio codec, it would be the Video-MP3 Player I would choose without re-thinking at all. Now I am looking for similar player that could do something similar like this, but with more functions, etc. I know that many Portable Media Players could also do these too, but the size of them is quite large and hard to carry around. If the PMP isn't too big, you could also suggest that.

If you could, please give me brief information about that Video-MP3 Player/PMP, with a link or pictures, etc.

    Thanks in advance,
    Nattawat

What do you have against the IPod player? That seems to fulfill most of your needs. I don't think you will find a player that will play most anything. You will have to do some converting at times, no matter what player you have. Subtitles may be hard encoded to most AVI formats. Selectable is maybe too much to ask.

I'm not a fan of small videos, but a player with a large memory would be my first criteria.

There's some like Cowan A2 that'll read SRT or SMI files.

The real big problem with iPod is that it cannot play DivX movies, and everything I'm going to put in must be converted first.

I understand. I would need to have the capabilities for Xvid or Divx or similar myself if I needed a small video display device. I just like the idea of the Ipod large storage. It would be nice to have ~50+ GB of storage.

  6. I bought an Archos AV500, which I love, but it doesn't do AC3 audio or subtitles The battery life blows the iPod out of the water though, and converting/muxing the audio isn't the most difficult thing. I also bought Lathe, which allows you to hard-code subtitles right to the video. I like this a lot because I don't need subtitles for movies in english, since it's my native language, but if I want to watch Nightwatch or Seven Samurai on my PVP, my DivX/XviD encoder allows me to burn the subs right to the video. Since I don't speak Russian or Japanese, I have no reason to turn them off, and don't mind that they're coded right to the video.

I love my Archos AV500. It's less annoying and more entertaining than my girlfriend.

    Thanks for the reply everybody.

The reason I need subtitles is because English is not my native language, it's my second language and sometimes I have trouble listening to fast speech. Encoding the subtitles into the movie isnt hard, but it took time, which will be a lot of time wasted if I have to do that with all the movies. Thanks for the suggestion though, but it's still not what I'm looking for

PS. redwudz, 60GB capacity is also what I want, but I can't the iPods :P
