    Hi,

I have 'captured' 16:9 footage to the computer using Canopus ADVC-55 analogue to digital converter.

If played in Media Player, it is 16:9 with black borders top and bottom.

If I import to Premiere, it is now in 4:3 format, but obviously squashed, i.e. too narrow.

I would still like it in 4:3, but to display correctly.

I obviously have two options, letterbox or zoom in/crop.

I would like to for the latter.

    How would this be achieved?

I have TMPGEnc, Premiere Elements and Vegas Movie Studio.

Before you do anything silly, I believe there is a tool that can change the DAR (Display Aspect Ratio) to give you 16:9 back in your DV file. I can't find it at the moment, but I have seen something referenced here before. Have a search, and hopefully someone can identify it for you.

The thing is that I do not want it in 16:9.

I want to make it 4:3, but without the letterbox. But at the same time, don't just want to squash it to fit.

Do you see where I am coming from?

In that case you will have to first resize it to get rid of the squash effect (compress it vertically), then zoom into fill the screen. This is a quite a resize, and will result is a soft fonal video.
