  1. Hello,
I am looking for suggestions as to what codec to use to get the highest quality AVI or WMV file possible that can be played back from a CD drive via WMP 9 with out having to install any kind of additional decoder software like (QT, Real, Divx, etc.). I want to put a short 640X480 progressive scan video made from a sequence of .tga files on to a CD that anyone can play back on their computer's CD drive with just a base 2000/XP + WMP 9 set up.

What I have so far (besides the stills) is an "uncompressed" AVI made with AE7. It looks great, but is a little too large. All of the codec's I've messed with so far in WME make the file very small, but look real bad: (too much contrast, blurry, and strong color bleed) I am totally new to this and any suggestions at all would be really helpful. Thanks in advance for any info.

For universal windows playback, MPEG-1 would be my codec of choice.
    If in doubt, Google it.
