I used to capture with Virtualdubmod via USB 2.0 with my SONY MINI-DV HANDYCAM DCR-PC350E, but there were dropped frames so i'm trying Adobe Premiere Pro. However, seems that Premiere only can detect if i am using DV-Firewire type of cable...which i do not...

Is there anyway i can use Premiere to capture via USB? Thanks!

Don't use USB use firewire. The USB is for transferring files from the memory card or for web quality video.

Dropped frames can be caused by many different things. Are you capturing to a secondary HD, with your software running on the Primary HD? Did you defrag the HD? Have you tried booting into Safe Mode and then capturing (without AV software, or other crap running in background)? While USB2.0 is not the preferred method, there are many users who are successfully capturing using it without having sync or dropped frames issues. Please provide more information about the exact steps you take for capture, and your system specs. You should have at least 512mb of ram, and somewhere around a 2.8ghz p4 or the athlon equivilent..

True when they are using a USB capture device but this is not a USB capture device but a cam. 99.9% of them only stream a web quality video over the USB, it's not the full quality DV-AVI you get when using the firewire cable. If you want full quality you need to use firewire.

    ok...

    3.0ghz P4
    1024gb Ram
    I have a 160gig SATA HDD

i have always turned off all my other crap when capturing...

unfortunately this is my friend's DV cam and he told me that it didn't come with a firewire...so....unlucky for me...

and even more unfortunately, i found out from the Adobe forums that premiere pro currently does not capture via USB...ugh...so looks like I've got to capture one scene at a time...
