    Hi

The DV Camera i bought can only connect through USB2 and i wonder if will the quality be affected if i capture via USB2 than firewire? As i have an 80Gig hard drive i would like to capture into MPEG 2 due to space. Will the quality be good or be too degraded?

    Cheers

Does it by any chance record to DVD? Never heard of a mini-DV or D8 one that does not have firewire. I'm pretty sure that doesn't exist. What's the model?

What DV camera is it? It would be unusual that it would only connect to the computer with USB. But if it it does connect with USB 2.0, there are some cameras that can transfer DV through that interface with no lose in quality using the DV format.

If it outputs in DV, then you may only be able to 'capture' in that format. That's not a big problem. DV may give you a better quality than a more highly compressed MPEG format. DV is very easy to edit, compared to MPEG. If it does output in MPEG, then you just need to use a MPEG editor if you want to work on it. A freeware editor like Cuttermaran does a good job. There are other payware MPEG editors that may be easier to use.
